This only helps if they don’t copy the contents of your hard drive onto a different device.

Of course, there is a limit to how much cost the government is willing to invest in searching your laptop, but I don’t think the extra storage is significant. Of course, five days of time on an NSA supercomputer probably is very expensive, so encryption is still not a bad idea…
